# Build a scene

> Lay out a live show in the Streamloop studio: start from a layout or the AI assistant, add sources and layers, publish, and go live.

<Info>
Scenes are in private beta. See [Scenes](/docs/scenes/overview) to request access.
</Info>

The studio is where you design a scene loop's show. It opens when you create a scene loop, or when
you click **Open studio** on a loop's **Scene** tab.

## Start your show

A new, empty show opens on a large prompt. You have two ways to start:

* **Describe the show** to the [AI assistant](/docs/scenes/ai-assistant). You can attach, drop or paste
references such as pictures, logos, a brand sheet or data files.
* **Or start from scratch**: click **Choose a layout** or **Blank frame**.

The starter layouts are:

| Layout | What it is |
| - | - |
| Full camera | One live input edge to edge. |
| Interview | Host and guest side by side, with name straps. |
| Picture in picture | Main feed with a corner inset. |
| Lower third | Camera with an animated name strap. |
| Starting soon | Animated backdrop, title and countdown. |
| Scoreboard | Teams and a live score. |
| Headlines | A grid of cards from a data table. |
| Be right back | Holding slide with a looping clip. |
| Blank | An empty 1080p canvas. |

## Find your way around

The top bar belongs to the loop: **‹ Loop name** takes you back to the loop's page, and the
**General**, **Scene** and **YouTube** tabs open those parts of the loop.

* **Left sidebar**: **Sources & layers**, **Scripts**, **Components** and **Live** (the
[show control](/docs/scenes/show-control) panel). Press `[` to fold it away.
* **Canvas**: your frames side by side. Drag, resize and layer things directly on it.
* **Right panel**: **Design** (the selected layer's settings), **Code** and **Assistant**. Press
  `]` to fold it away.

## Add sources and layers

A **source** is anything with picture, sound or data. A **layer** shows a source (or text, an image
or a shape) in a frame.

1. In **Sources & layers**, click **Add source** and pick a kind:
   * **Live inputs**: [RTMP input, SRT input or HLS stream](/docs/scenes/live-inputs), or an
     [IP camera](/docs/scenes/cameras).
   * **Media**: a video playlist, a video file, or a [web page](/docs/scenes/web-pages).
   * **Data**: [Google Sheets, Excel or CSV, a JSON feed, web page data or a formula](/docs/scenes/data-and-sheets).
2. Drag the source onto a frame to show it there.
3. Select a layer to change its size, position, style and animation in **Design**.

To add another frame, click **New frame** (the + button next to **Layers**). Each frame has its own
**transition**: cut, fade, slide, wipe or dip.

## Your changes save automatically

Every change saves as you work: the top bar shows **All changes saved**. Teammates who open the same
scene see each other's edits in real time.

Saved changes are a **draft**. Nothing reaches viewers until you publish.

## Publish

Click **Publish** to make your draft the live version. The top bar then shows the version, for
example **v3 · published 2 min ago**.

* Before publishing, Streamloop checks the show. If something is wrong, such as a layer that shows a
source you deleted, the problems appear right under **Publish**. Fix them and publish again.
* While the loop is live, publishing swaps in the new version without stopping the stream.
* The version menu lists earlier versions. **Restore** one to publish it again as a new version.
  Nothing is lost.

## Go live

**Go live** starts the loop. It stays disabled until you've published the scene once, because the
stream always shows the published version. You can also start, stop and schedule the loop from its
page, like any other loop.

## Remove a scene

To turn a scene loop back into a video loop, stop the loop, open its **Scene** tab, and choose
**Remove scene**. You can't add or remove a scene while the loop is live.
